Player Sticks:
Lacrosse is played with a ball and sticks, in today's game it is played with only three types of sticks offence, defense, and the goalie stick, however, when Indians played it there was mainly one type of stick used for offence and defense.
The First Stick:
The first types of sticks used by the Native Americans had a much smaller net and had longer wooden shafts. It was much more of a challenge for the Natives to keep the ball in their sticks as the net or pocket area had no depth and was made of rough leather.

1800's - Early/Mid Twentieth Century:
As time went on players realized they needed a more durable stick that was capable of holding the ball better.
In making the sport easier to play it became more of a well known sport that all nations played. With the deeper net/ pocket players were able to use a method called cradling to keep the ball in their stick more effectively. Cradling is pretty much what it sounds like as it involves slowly rotating the wrist back and forth to keep the ball in place, somewhat like cradling a baby.

Late Twentieth Century Sticks:
As time went on sticks converted from wood and leather to carbon, aluminum, plastic, and nylon. These types of sticks evolved into what players use today. This is the type of stick used in the late 20th century. These sticks had a more triangular based head.

D-Poles:
During this time in the games history defensive sticks became a very crucial part. These sticks were called D-poles and have a longer shaft but the same size head. The longer shaft allows players to defend the opposing team better and they are better for clearing the ball to the other side of the field. (shown below)

Modern Stick:
The type of stick players use today are very advanced and well designed. The head of the stick is tighter than all previous versions making cradling the ball easier for players, and making passes more accurate. This version of the stick was introduced in the late 90's
